The XXL freshmen list features artists-to-watch in the rap game. The list has a history of showcasing unknown/underground rappers, as well as artists considered to be on the rise. The list creates significant buzz among listeners and artists alike, and is credited for giving many artists their first taste of fame. For some reason or another some rapper have been banned from been featured in this magazine.

  1. Lil Baby

The newcomer from Atlanta, Lil Baby before he come to light he had committed a number of crimes and in 2014 he was imprisoned for five years. After releasing the hit tracks “Freestyle”, “Yes indeed” and “My Dawg” he got recognition .It’s unfortunate he didn’t get a spot on  2018 XXL Freshman because it was too late when he became popular the list was almost published .

  1. Rich the Kid

Many might consider the rapper Rich the Kid a newcomer but that might not be the case. He released several tracks before his breakout single “New Freezer” featuring Kendrick Lamar. Released under Interscope Records the hit single sold platinum. Rich the Kid took it to Instagram and Twitter saying that XXL had offered to include him on the XXL Freshmen list but he turned down the offer. Something which the XXL publication seems to disagree with.

  1. Money Bagg Yo

Money Bagg Yo is another rapper who has worked so hard to gain recognition in the rap music. His latest projects have been a success as the charted top charts and he was considered to one of the XXL freshmen .But the publication thought otherwise and was considered to be not fit for the spot,

  1. Tay -K 47.

Tay K 47 is popularly known for his music video “The Race” which has over a hundred and fifty million views on YouTube. Despite of such negativities his fan base continues to grow. Tay-K 47 crime records denied him a spot on the XXL Freshmen list .Earlier on he had wrote a letter to the XXL publication to convince them to include him on the list .He mentioned the success of his video “The Race” but all was in vain as he was still behind bars.

  1. Tee Grizzly

Tee Grizzly has garnered prominence in rap since dropping his debut single “First Day Out” which gained over 2 million views on YouTube in less than three weeks. He has since released multiple hit tracks but he has been denied on the list of XXL Freshmen list not only once but twice in 2017 and 2018 when he was nominated.

  1. Famous Dex

Many of the fans were expecting Famous Dex to be one of the XXL Freshmen but XXL chief editor Vanessa confirmed the reason why he was left out. There is a video of the rapper assaulting his girlfriend.

  1. Lil Xan.

Like other rappers on this list lil Xan didn’t land a spot on the freshmen list .He is best known for his hit single Betrayed which sold platinum and peaked at number 64 on the Billboard 100.

  1. Bhad Bhabie

The teenager gained public recognition after her appearance with her mum on an episode of Dr.Phil.She became an internet celebrity due to a viral video on the phrase “Cash me outside”. With fame in the internet Danielle Bregoli would decide to pursue her dream career of rapping. She made a record when her debut “These Heaux” made it to the Billboard Hot 100 making her the youngest female rapper to have ever appeared on Billboard 100.The song landed her a recording deal with Atlantic Records. Her video has over eighty three million views but XXL publication still feel that she doesn’t deserve to be included on the XXL Freshmen list.

  1. Young boy NBA.

Young Boy Never Broke Again is another rapper on this list whose crime record has denied him an appearance on XXL Freshman list despite of releasing good rap music. Young boy has worked with some of the notable artists like Meek Mill, 21 Savage, Young Thug and others. “Outside Today” is the highest charting song by the rapper having peaked at number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100.

  1. Tekashi 6ix9ine.

In 2017, Tekashi dropped his hit song “Gummo” which has been praised by critics as well as his album “69”.The single sold Gold and with such success his fans expected him to make to the XXL Freshmen list however he never made it. The Brooklyn native rapper claims his pitch video was removed from YouTube by XXL .Tekashi further claims he deserves a spot on the XXL Freshmen list having five consecutive hits making to the charts and selling platinum.
